MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team finished in third place Monday at the MIAC Championships, played at Bunker Hills Golf Club. The Gusties shot a three-round total of 301-299-297-897 (+33). Saint John’s won the championship at 870 and Bethel took second at 883.

Wyatt Wasko (Sr., Lake Elmo) and Sam Skaar (Sr., Coleraine) finished in the top 10 to earn All-Championship Team honors. Wasko finished sixth at five-over after three rounds, carding 75-71-75-221, while Skaar took 10th place at 74-75-75-224.  Cam Longie (So., Hutchinson) finished in a tie for 16th after scoring 76-77-74-227. Chris Gutuza (Fy., Johannesburg, South Africa) rounded out the top four scores for the Gusties at 79-76-73-228 and took 18th place.

“We had a solid day today,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “We had a mountain to climb to try to get to second place and did our part in finishing third. We learned a lot this week, take advantage of the holes that are offering opportunities, and make sure you aren’t giving shots back by making poor decisions on the really tough holes. We have a little time before we head to Destin for the Golfweek Challenge and if we can down time our putting, we could have a great event. Very happy for our two seniors, Wyatt and Sam for earning all tournament honors. Our underclassmen gained some valuable experience.”

Nate Loxtercamp of Saint John’s won medalist honors at six-under 210.

Gustavus wraps up the fall season Oct. 16-18 at the D3 Golfweek Challenge in Destin, Fla.
