“We saw some really good running moments today,” said Head Coach Brenden Huber. “Evelyn had another strong race, and she continues to build on a very solid season. Some of our younger ladies had a really good effort as well. We have to work a bit more on our earlier positioning, but overall we had a lot of good moments.”
Henry Hinchcliffe (Sr., Austin) was the first Gustie to cross the finish line for the men, taking 54th out of 407 runners with a time of 26:13.70. Jake Wielgos (Sr., Elburn, Ill.) finished next for the Gusties in 80th with a time of 26:33.04. Following Wielgos was Trevor LaVigne (Sr., Farmington) in 103rd (26:45.72) and Logan McCullough (Jr., Waverly, Iowa) in 118th (26:53.21). Rounding out the Gustavus top-five was Tucker Wallin (Sr., Red Wing), who finished with a time of 27:15.45 in 145th.
“Our guys had a few step up in really big ways today. Jake had a great race, and Trevor had a really impressive effort today.
“We were racing in a big race with some of the best in the region. We are always learning more about ourselves, but we saw a lot of improvement on both sides from St. Olaf two weeks ago.”
The Gusties are off until Oct. 15, when both the men and women’s teams head to La Crosse, Wis., for the Jim Drews Invitational.
