CHICAGO, Ill. – The Gustavus men’s tennis team beat North Central (Ill.) 5-0 Friday in the second round of the NCAA tournament, improving to 25-10 on the season. The Gusties advance to the NCAA regional championship match for the 10th consecutive season where they will face host Chicago at noon Saturday. Gustavus and Chicago are facing each other in the region title match for the fifth time in the past seven seasons.
Gustavus started the match with a clean sweep of doubles, all by scores of 8-5. Daniel Fouchier (Jr., Nootdorp, Netherlands) and Sourabh Terakanambi (Jr., Apple Valley) finished first at No. 2, followed by Drew Elofson (Sr., Saint Peter) and Marco Siviero (Fy., Sao Miguel de Oeste, Brazil) at No. 3, and Nick Aney (Sr., Rochester) and Alex Budde (Jr., Menomonee Falls, Wis.) at No. 1.
The Gusties closed out the match with singles victories at Nos. 5 and 3. Siviero finished first at No. 5 with a score of 6-1, 6-3, followed by Fouchier at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-4.
