WAVERLY, Iowa – The Gustavus women’s golf team took second place out of 14 teams Sunday at the Wartburg Spring Invitational. The Gusties shot a 313-317-630 (+70), which was 10 strokes off the leader Bethel.

Emily Kratz (Sr., Edina) claimed individual medalist honors after carding a nine-over par 72-77-149. Sydney Regalado (Sr., Rosemount) and Laurel Ward (Jr., Bozeman, Mont.) tied for 10th place. Regalado posted a 79-81-160 and Ward had a 81-79-160. Erin Ericson (Sr., Onalaska, Wis.) was one stroke back at 81-80-161 and tied for 15th. Annika Reierson (So., Delano) finished in a tie for 38th at 91-84-175. Playing as an individual, Hannah Hubbart (Jr., Hastings) tied for 40th at 82-94-176.

“Congratulations to Emily Kratz on her medalist honors,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “It was nice to see her play well and hold her first place position throughout the tournament. Her preparation, execution, and mental toughness helped her play well on an exceedingly windy day. It was very difficult to hit any shots with accuracy and distance control. Also, congratulations to the women as they too battled extremely difficult conditions. It was perhaps one of the windiest tournaments we have played in. The entire team was patient and accepting of the challenges that came to them today. It will be a short turnaround when we play in the Bethel invite next weekend. It will be nice to finally get outside on an open course and get some practice in.”

Gustavus next competes at Bethel on Friday and Saturday.
