“Yesterday was fantastic for our entire team,” said Head Coach Tommy Valentini. “We split up into three squads to take on three string opponents. In our rematch against Bowdoin, the guys competed beautifully. They brought great energy from the get go. We got a massive effort from Sourabh and Daniel at number 2 dbs. To get us on the board and into the match. Despite being down 1-2, we fought courageously in very tough conditions against a well-coached, top-10 opponent. Marco and Nicky played some beautiful tennis and Daniel put together a warrior’s effort to get us our 3 singles points. We came up just short on the scoreboard, but it was a match that we can certainly grow from and build on, and that was a success for us in many important ways.”

“Against Hope International, the guys came out flying in the doubles and secured the doubles point with clinical performances by Joe and Joel at 1 and Luke and Sean at 2. From there we held our nerve and played bold tennis in the singles. Joel Hug was outstanding leading us at #1. Justin Sehlin put together an epic, grinding performance in the heat to win his match in 3, and when the match was tied at 3-3 Luke Haddorff was calm, and poised in the clutch to get us the team win. “

“Against Westmont, we played hard but couldn’t get the lead in the doubles. But the guys doubled down and showed incredible resilience to take four of the singles. It was a great team effort by all 6 guys there. Jack and Caleb us to level with 2 clean singles matches, Diego played a big time 3rd set to get us to 3-3 and Josh Christensen showed incredible poise and resolve to fight off a few team match points, level the 3rd set at 5-5 and then raised his game to win it for us from there. “

“Overall it was a big time effort from everyone on our team. We showed depth, heart, and togetherness. We’re thankful for some great results in slide moments, but most of all for how our guys lived out our values at every turn. We grew a lot as a group throughout the week in California, and especially yesterday. We’ll look to get rested and ready to make more progress next week.”
The Gusties are next in action when they travel to Winona to face off against Saint Mary’s on April 2nd.
