BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Birgen Nelson (So., Edina) clocked in at 8.60 to win the 60-meter hurdles at Minnesota State University-Mankato’s Ted Nelson Classic last weekend. That time is the fastest in NCAA Division III this season and the 10th-fastest in D-III history. It is also a new program record and ties the all-time MIAC mark set by St. Thomas’ Mallory Burnham in the finals of the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships. In addition to her 60 hurdles time, Nelson also helped pace the Gusties’ 4×400 relay that took third with a time of 4:04.59. For her performances, Nelson has been named the MIAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
