Track & Field Competes at MSU Chuck Peterson Open

A small contingent of the Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams kicked off the indoor season Saturday at the Minnesota State-Mankato Chuck Peterson Open.

MANKATO, Minn. – A small contingent of the Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams kicked off the indoor season Saturday at the Minnesota State-Mankato Chuck Peterson Open.

The women’s duo of Birgen Nelson and Elizabeth Donnelly highlighted the day with top performances. Donnelly won the 800-meter in 2:15.48, breaking her own school record with the top time in the MIAC and second in Division III this season.

“Elizabeth came out here today poised and ready, and walked away with a new school record,” Assistant Coach Becki Staley said. “She executed beautifully. I am excited to see where she ends up this season”

Nelson placed second in the 60-hurdles with a time of 8.78, which is currently the fastest time in Division III. Nelson also took 10th in the 200-meter at 26.35. Danielle Miller finished 10th in the 60-hurdle prelims and 31st in the 200.

Wyatt Quiring and Isaiah Subah were the only two Gustie men to compete. Quiring finished fourth in the 400-meter at 50.87 and eighth in the 200-meter, clocking a time of 22.88. Subah took eighth in the 60-meter with a time of 7.27. He ran a 7.24 in the prelims. Subah also took seventh in the long jump at 21-6.

Gustavus now breaks until January when it competes at the MSU-Mankato Invitational on Jan. 14.
