Fine Arts Preview: November 1-7

This week includes the Bjorling Music Festival Concert, performances by the Bardin-Niskala Duo, the Fall Band Concert, senior recital by Kyle Langer, and the final week of the Art for All: the Swedish Experience in Mid-America art exhibit.

Bjorling Music Festival Concert

Christ Chapel

Our honor band festival brings 250 students from 60 high schools across Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The event features faculty clinics, workshops for teachers, rehearsals, and a concert in Gustavus’s magnificent Christ Chapel. The honor ensembles will be under the direction of myself, Dr. Heidi Johanna Miller, and Dr. Karrin Meffert-Nelson. The finale concert will feature the high school honor band and the renowned Gustavus Wind Orchestra.

The Gustavus Department of Music is proud to welcome the Bardin-Niskala Duo to Gustavus Adolphus College and Björling Recital Hall. Formed by An-Lin Bardin, cello & Naomi Niskala, piano; they will perform their concert “Of Innocence, Loss, and Healing: Songs My Mother Taught Me”.

Hillstrom Museum

The Hillstrom Museum of Art presents Art for All: The Swedish Experience in Mid-America, on view September 13 through November 7, 2021.  The exhibit, which was co-organized by the Museum with the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, Kansas, features 60 paintings, drawings, and prints by 20 prominent Swedish American artists working in the late 19th and early 20th century.
