Fine Arts Week Preview: October 27-31

As Gustavus students come back from Fall Break, the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra returns from their Fall Break Tour in a home concert at Christ Chapel. Plus, don’t miss Gustavus Violin faculty Natalia Moiseeva in her recital, or the last few weeks of the Hillstrom Museum of Art’s Art for All, closing November 7.

Faculty Recital: Natalia Moiseeva – Violin

The Gustavus Department of Music is proud to present violin faculty, Natalia Moiseeva, for her recital. Joined by pianist Ivan Konev, the duo will perform music by Stravinsky, Copland, and John Corigliano.

Russia’s native violinist Natalia Moiseeva holds BM and MM degrees in Violin Performance from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia, and a DMA degree in Violin Performance from the University of Minnesota. She is a prizewinner of International competitions and she hasappeared as a soloist with orchestras both in the United States and in Europe.

An avid chamber music player, she performs regularly in the Twin Cities Area as well as abroad, collaborating with the members of Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Before moving to the United States, she had a tenure with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra named after Evgeniy Svetlanov. Currently, Natalia is an Assistant Concertmaster of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra and she is on the Faculty at Carleton, Macalester and Gustavus Adolphus colleges as well as at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Natalia is a recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, FY 2020. In 2021 she released her first solo CD titled “The Young Violinist’s Album.”

Hillstrom Museum

The Hillstrom Museum of Art presents Art for All: The Swedish Experience in Mid-America, on view September 13 through November 7, 2021.  The exhibit, which was co-organized by the Museum with the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, Kansas, features 60 paintings, drawings, and prints by 20 prominent Swedish American artists working in the late 19th and early 20th century.
