LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team Wednesday night lost a non-conference matchup 2-0 at UW-La Crosse. The Gusties drop to 4-7 overall while the Eagles improve to 9-2-1.
The Eagles scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 24th minute. The home team then added an insurance goal in the 36th minute and outshot the Gusties 15-4 in the first half. Neither team scored in the final 45 minutes. UW-La Crosse outshot the Gusties 22-7 in the game.
Leah Pavlish (Sr., Prior Lake) suffered the loss in goal after making six saves.
”We had a slow start to the game and it hurt us,” Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said. “We rebounded well and played a competitive second half. Credit to the team for battling hard in the second half and pushing all the way to the final whistle. We are close to firing on all cylinders — now the challenge comes to stay motivated to continue to get better each day, have confidence in ourselves, and believe we can get to that next level. We have full faith that this team can accomplish those tasks.”
Gustavus next travels to Concordia on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. conference matchup.
