Women’s Soccer Blanked 1-0 Against Dubuque

The Gustavus women’s soccer team was shutout 1-0 against Dubuque on Monday afternoon in its home opener. The Gusties drop to 1-2 overall, while the Spartans improve to 2-1.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team was shutout 1-0 against Dubuque on Monday afternoon in its home opener. The Gusties drop to 1-2 overall, while the Spartans improve to 2-1.

Dubuque held possession in the Gustie zone for most of the opening half, outshooting the home team 14-2 in the first 45 minutes. The Spartan attack paid off in the 37th minute with what proved to be the game-winning goal.

“We had a tough first half, as we couldn’t get our Gustie tempo going and became pinned back,” Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said. “We made some adjustments in the second half and created some very close opportunities.”
The Gusties played better in the second half but were still outshot 9-7, for a total disadvantage of 23-9 in the game, while the Spartans held on for the win.
Abby Goodno (Sr., Little Canada) made a career-high 13 saves in a complete game effort.
The Gusties host UW-River Falls at 2 p.m. Saturday.
