SAINT PAUL, Minn. – After day one of the MIAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which mostly featured non-scored preliminary races, Gustavus sits in sixth place out of 12 teams with 28 points. Saint Mary’s leads the meet with 35 points.
Birgen Nelson (So., Edina) advanced to the finals in three events. In 100-meter prelims, she placed third at 12.84. Nelson also took third in the 200-meter prelims with a time of 26.21, and took second in the 100-hurdle prelims at 14.41. Victoria Ademisi will join Nelson in the finals of the 200 tomorrow after placing seventh in the prelims, crossing the line at 26.99.
Sara Moen (Sr., Blaine) advanced to the 400-meter finals, taking sixth place in the prelims at 1:00.52. Elizabeth Donnelly (So., Langely, Wash.) will represent Gustavus in the 800-meter finals after placing fourth in the prelims at 2:16.55. In the 1500-meter prelims, Josie Blake (Jr., Waukegan, Ill.) advanced with a fifth-place time of 4:52.26.
The 10,000-meter was competed as a final and Mackinzee Miest (Jr., Saint James) took fourth place in 38:12.45. The 4×800 relay team of Blake, Moen, Elizabeth Whitcomb (Sr., Saint Paul), and Donnelly took third place in 9:36.40.
All field events are contested as finals. Doris-Klein Mor (Jr., Saint Peter) took third in the pole vault with a height of 3.43 meters, earning All-Conference honors. Madi Kes (Fy., Jordan) placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.06 meters. And Annika Poe (So., Big Lake) took second in the shot put with an All-Conference toss of 13.44 meters.
The final day of the MIAC Championships begins at noon Saturday.
