“First and foremost I could not be more proud of this team,” Assistant Coach Alyssa Taylor said. “The heart and battle put forth in this match was awesome. As a coach, all you can ask for from your team is to compete and play hard. And they did that tonight against a very strong team.”

Gustavus held on to an early 10-6 lead to start the second, but the Bennies went on a 15-6 run and claimed the second 25-20. The Bennies rolled their momentum into the third and never trailed in another 25-20 decision.

Saint Ben’s was on the verge of winning the match in the fourth set, serving set point at 24-19, but a couple Gustie kills and a Bennie attack error brought the score to 24-22 and forced a timeout. “We had many players in roles and positions they maybe hadn’t been in before and they stepped up big time and just played Gustie volleyball,” Taylor added. “Like I said, very proud of the team and their fight.”
