DUBUQUE, Iowa – A trio of Gusties competed in the 10k at the University of Dubuque’s Spartan Invitational on Friday night. Andrew Stumbo (Sr., Boone, Iowa) convincingly won the men’s 10k with a time of 31:58.12, while Mackinzee Miest (Jr., Saint James) took first among collegiate competitors (second overall) in the women’s race, crossing the line in 38:34.77. Elizabeth Kvebak (Sr., Detroit Lakes) took seventh in 45:33.90.

“It was a great debut for Mackinzee,” Assistant Coach Brenden Huber said. “She went out and set her pace right from the get-go so it that was fun to watch. It was also Liz’ first 10k as a senior and she ran her heart out and it was fun to see a senior’s hard work pay off. Stumbo didn’t have much to work with and lapped everybody. He was able to run everybody down and that was the only competitive part of the race with about a lap to go. He did a good job with what he had.”

Gustavus hosts the Lee Krough Invitational Saturday.
