TEMPE, Ariz. – The Gustavus men’s tennis team Tuesday was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) UTR Team of the Month for NCAA Division III in the month of March.
The ITA UTR Team of the Month honors a collegiate tennis team that showed the largest increase in its UTR Power 6 rating over the course of the previous month. UTR is a rating system that provides a single, unifying language and standard for tennis players across ages, geography, gender and economics.
The Gusties hit the ground running in March. Their first match of the season on March 5 against St. Olaf was a shutout. The Gusties recorded five shutouts during March – the majority of their seven wins. Gustavus’s sole loss came to Division I opponent Drake. The Gusties left Des Moines with wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, and No. 2 doubles. Before the loss, the program had only allowed three points total to opponents. The Gusties currently hold a 7-2 record and are 3-0 in conference play.
