The History Department is pleased to announce the winners of the annual DeNault prize for outstanding essays in History. This year we are honoring three students who are all History majors.
Lucy Dolan is a junior with a major in history and a minor in religion. She is being honored for her essay “Memory and the Hydrogen Bomb: How Bikini Changed the Nuclear War.”
Ruby O’Hagan is a sophomore who is a double major in history and sociology/anthropology. She plays in the Gustavus Wind Orchestra and works at the library. She is being honored for her paper “Simón Bolívar’s Greatest Influences.”
Lillie Ortloff is a junior history major with minors in public health and gender, women, and sexuality studies. Lillie is also on the swim team and serves on the executive board of Students for Reproductive Freedoms. She is being honored for her paper “Sex Testing of Women and Intersex Athletes in Twentieth-Century International Competitions.”
All three students will be presented with a check and a certificate and will be recognized at Honors Day on May 1, 2021.
