SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s tennis team started its 2021 season Friday with a 9-0 win over St. Olaf at the Swanson Tennis Center. It was the first match of the year for both the Gusties and Oles. The Gusties made quick work in doubles, winning 8-0, 8-1, and 8-3, before claiming all six singles in straight sets.
“It was really a joy to watch the guys compete tonight,” Head Coach Tommy Valentini said. “Obviously there were some nerves going into a match for the first time in a year, but I thought our leaders were great in keeping everyone calm and present. Once the doubles started we settled in and executed well, and gained good momentum going into the singles. The guys supported each other well tonight and it was fantastic to get a lot of guys in action in both singles and doubles. We made good progress overall and we’ll look forward to another series of fun opportunities on Sunday.”
