Another student who took advantage of research opportunities in the Psychological Science Department this past academic year was Lauren Lowe. Lauren worked closely with Dr. Kayla DeLorme and said of her initial experience working with her in the labs, “I did maternal rat behavior and studied stress transmission! I also did a lot of classwork such as studying creativity and the perception of creativity”. Lauren helped collect data and Dr. DeLorme gave her first authorship on the research they conducted. To become a part of the neuroscience community, Lauren joined a professional organization. “I joined Society for Neuroscience. I originally joined it to register for the conference in fall 2019, but it is helpful to stay connected through it!” Lauren’s experiences working in the lab and completing hands-on research eventually led to presenting the data at a conference. She said of her experience, “I attended Society for Neuroscience in Chicago, IL. It was really cool to talk to people from all over the world and see what other research has been occurring.”
Lauren would encourage current and future Psychological Science students to take advantage of research opportunities. “I really enjoyed the hands-on experience and learning new software. It was a lot of fun! I also felt like it helped me become better connected to my faculty who is also my advisor.”
