Emma Forsyth ’25: 2024 Recipient of the ELCO Corporation Award

Emma Forsyth ’25, an environmental studies and dance major at Gustavus, received the ELCO Corporation Award. This award is presented annually to a student who has made the greatest contribution to excellence in the Department of Theatre & Dance.

Forsyth is a highly active member of the Theatre & Dance department, consistently contributing to the vibrant and dynamic environment. Her involvement spans across various productions and initiatives, showcasing a deep commitment to fostering artistic expression and collaboration within the department.

“Most of the time I am working behind the scenes”, says Forsyth, “and receiving this award acknowledges my dedication to the department.”

Throughout her time at Gustavus Emma has performed in numerous faculty works and the creative work of her peers. Emma’s own choreography was featured in Emerge: The Choreographers’ Gallery, and she had a prominent role in the Theatre production of Spring Awakening. Emma is also heavily involved in the student dance organization and is a thoughtful leader as part of the Dance Collective of Gustavus. This student-led group organizes dance events and brings in guest artists to teach master classes to any and all interested Gusties.

Forsyth knew she wanted to pursue her education at a small college. Gustavus provided her with the academic resources and personalized support she was seeking. The close-knit community and individualized attention allowed her to thrive both academically and artistically, making Gustavus the perfect choice for her.

“I come from a small town and I knew I wanted a place that provided a small class and individual attention”, says Forsyth. “Gustavus has given me so many opportunities to explore dance. I had the chance to perform with Michele Rusinko for the Nobel Conference ‘22, which was a terrific experience”.

Most recently, Emma was accepted into the University of Minnesota’s highly selective pre-law scholar program.
