Gavin Stodden ’25

“Along with teaching applicable information, the professors also do a phenomenal job of making sure that we know how to summarize that information and relay it forward in an efficient manner.”

As someone who has been involved in sports throughout his life and plans to become an Athletic Trainer, Gavin decided to pursue a minor in Sports Management in addition to his major in Exercise Physiology.

In his classes, Gavin has experienced an inviting atmosphere, and feels support from his fellow students and professors. He describes his professors as always being able to make students feel comfortable around them, regardless of whether the student is in their class or not. He says, “I will be met with a smile and a compliment by whoever I happen to pass by, whether it’s a fellow classmate, professor, or faculty member.” He particularly appreciates Professor Claire Woebke, who has allowed him to become comfortable attending a professor’s office hours. While Professor Woebke pushes Gavin to be the best student that he can be, she also provides a welcoming environment that helps ease his worries.

Gavin also appreciates the course content that his professors provide, particularly in the fact that the material he is learning has practical applications not only for his future career, but also for his life as a whole. His classes have also improved his abilities on other important skills, such as summarization and an ability to communicate in an efficient manner, which Gavin feels will be applied to his future career as a healthcare provider and someone who will need to communicate properly with patients.

Outside of academics, Gavin is also involved on campus with Gustavus intramurals, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Gustavus Mentorship Program.
