SAINT PETER, Minn. — One goal from Brooke Power (Jr., Lakeville) was enough for a MIAC win over St. Olaf, as the Gusties rolled to their 16th conference victory of the season, rolling past the Oles for a 1-0 win. The Gusties combined for 48 shots to the Oles 10 in the game, improving to 21-3-0.

In what was a very lopsided first period of play, the Gusties amassed a total of 22 shots on goal to the Oles’ one, maintaining offensive pressure through the entire first period. Power broke the silence 14 minutes into the period, taking advantage of an Ole misplay to find the puck in the slot and send it directly over the right shoulder of Ole netminder Carley Tuman.

The Gusties headed to the locker room with a 1-0 lead after the first, and that lead would hold into the second period, as Tuman stayed perfect in the second frame to make 18 more saves for the Oles. Katie McCoy (Sr., Grafton, Wis.) saw only two more shots in the second, saving both.

The Oles put forth their best effort in the third, totaling seven shots while holding the Gusties to just eight in the final period. A pair of power play opportunities gave the Oles a chance to net the game-tying goal in the third, but McCoy stood tall between the pipes, finishing the game with a 10-save shutout. With the shutout, McCoy now moves to share the NCAA active-player career shutout lead at 28 in her career, tying UW-Eau Claire’s Stephanie Martin.

“We got the win today, and that’s what’s most important,” said Head Coach Mike Carroll. “We learned a lot of very valuable lessons and learned more about St. Olaf. Yes, they played well against us, but the bottom line is we responded and did everything that we could do. We took control of everything that was in our control tonight, and we’ll be ready for them tomorrow.”

The Gusties head to St. Olaf tomorrow for their regular season finale, facing the Oles for a 3 p.m. puck drop.
