EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus gymnastics team combined for a score of 183.750 against UW-Eau Claire, who totaled a score of 184.850 to defeat the Gusties in a WIAC meet Friday night.
In the first rotation, the Gusties were led by first-year Maddox Lee (Hugo), posting a career high 9.250 on bars, earning her third overall.
The Gusties put together an impressive performance on the vault in the second rotation, scoring a total of 46.650 as a team. Abby Willis (Jr., San Bernardino, Calif.) led the Gusties, posting a score of 9.500 to win the event. Three more Gusties joined Willis in the top five, as Lindsay Bangs (So., Owatonna) scored a 9.375 for third, Maddox Lee posted a score of 9.300 for fourth, and Lily Horsch (So., Somonauk, Ill.) rounded out the top five at 9.275.
On floor, Olivia Jahnke (So., Hanover) led the Gusties with an impressive 9.425, good for first overall. Jahnke was followed closely by Willis, who tied for second with a score of 9.400. Jahnke picked up another career-high in beam, posting a score of 9.500 to tie for first overall. Izzy Breitkreutz (Jr., Big Lake) added a career-best and fifth-place finish on the beam with a score of 9.275.
The Gusties, who have improved on their team score in every meet thus far, finished with a 46.650 on vault and 45.025 on bars, while notching a 46.400 on floor and 45.025 on beam.
The Gusties are off until Feb. 10 when they head to Winona State for a 6:30 p.m. meet.
