SAINT PETER, Minn. — The Gusties hosted their first home meet of the year, inviting national notable UW-Whitewater to Sponberg Gymnastics Studio Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks, in their season opener, put up a score of 186.450 to top the Gusties, who finished with a 181.500.
Emma Esteb (Sr., Woodbury) led the Gusties, posting a career best and the highest overall score on the beam at 9.600. Esteb also posted the Gusties’ highest score on the vault (9.325), good for fifth overall.
Following a career performance in the Gusties’ season opener at the University of Minnesota, Olivia Jahnke (So., Buffalo) led the Gusties on the floor, posting a score of 9.400 for third overall. Teammate Caylee Greeder (Jr., Mahtomedi) wasn’t far behind, adding a score of 9.325 for fourth.
Annie Corbett (Sr., Brookfield, Wis.) led the Gusties on bars, posting a score of 9.200 for the squad’s top score and fourth overall. Maddox Lee (Fy., Hugo) in her second collegiate meet, posted a score of 9.150 on the bars to finish just behind Corbett in fifth.
“We had another great meet today. Our girls did a really good job keeping the momentum and energy all day,” said Head Coach Aryn DeGrood. “We scored higher this week than we did last week. There were things that we could improve on and things we did really well. Overall, it was a great home opener.”
As a team, the Gusties scored 46.075 on vault, 44.550 on bars, 44.900 on beam, and 45.975 on the floor. The Gusties are on the road for their next three meets, heading to UW-Oshkosh next Saturday.
