LEXINGTON, Ky. — Junior Marlee Turn (Kennedy) and first-year Maren Sundberg (Eagan) certainly had a year to remember. Turn collected various accolades for her performance on the court, including All-Tournament honors at Wartburg and Augsburg, MIAC Athlete of the Week, MIAC Offensive Player of the Year, MIAC All-Conference, MIAC All-Playoff Team, MIAC Playoff MVP, and AVCA All-Region honors. And she added one more honor on Tuesday, as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its annual All-America awards, naming Turn Third Team All-America. Sundberg also earned her fair share honors in her first year as a Gustie, and was named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention on Tuesday.

In her junior season, Turn tallied 395 kills and a hitting percentage of .267 in 102 sets. She added 348 digs on the defensive end for the Gusties, as well as 27 service aces. Turn’s 395 kills placed her first on the team, first in the MIAC, and eighth in the Gustavus record book for kills in a season. Turn notched double-digit kills in 25 matches this season, good for third in Gustavus history. Turn finished the season ranking fifth in the nation for kills per set (4.62) and total attacks per set (12.62) and sixth in the nation for points per set at 5.00.

In her first year of collegiate volleyball, Sundberg was crucial for the Gusties’ defense, posting a total of 573 digs. Sundberg played in every set for the Gusties, and added 30 service aces and 103 assists to her stat sheet as well. Sundberg’s 573 digs were good for first on the team, first in the conference, and seventh in the Gustavus record book for digs in a season.
