DULUTH, Minn. — The Gusties, playing their third-straight and final road match of the year, proved to be too much for the Saints to handle, dealing St. Scholastica a 3-0 setback. With the win, the Gusties extend their winning streak to 12 and conference record to 10-0.
The first set showcased a valiant effort from both sides, with the Gusties and the Saints battling to a tie six times throughout the set. It seemed that the Saints would run away with it, after posting four unanswered points for a late 20-16 effort, but the Gustie offense posted eight points of their own in response, eventually taking care of set one, 25-22.
The Gusties jumped out to a seven-point lead in set two, 14-7, and the Saints couldn’t recover the deficit, with the Gusties maintaining the lead through the entirety of the set. The score would finally settle at 25-20 in favor of the Gusties. Set three was more of the same, as the Gusties posted another 25-20 score to close out the sweep, as St. Scholastica struggled to get within three points of the Gustie lead. With the set three victory, the Gusties completed their third-straight 3-0 sweep.
Sarah Elliott (Sr., Lombard, Ill.), Courtney Peterson (Sr., Jamestown, N.D.) and Jess Gruber (Sr., Becker) led the Gustie attack, posting 12, 11, and 10 kills, respectively.
