SAINT PETER, Minn. — The Gusties two-game conference winning streak was broken Saturday, as one goal would be enough for St. Olaf to top the Gusties, 1-0.

Both teams played scoreless through the first half, with the Gusties holding the edge in shots, 7-5. Abby Goodno (Sr., Little Canada) and Ole goalkeeper Maddie Black were both perfect through the first, turning aside four shots on goal each.

With the second half more than halfway over, it seemed that the Gusties and Oles would battle to a 0-0 draw. But St. Olaf had other ideas. Tessa Anderson would put one over the hands of Goodno in the 62nd minute, breaking the goalkeeper’s Senior Day shutout. The Gusties had two close attempts to even the score with four minutes remaining – one a shot from Lillian Selberg (So., Minneapolis) that would just barely miss the net, and another off of a corner kick from Cambelle Waldspurger (Fy., Mahtomedi) — but both attempts would come up empty. Annika Lewis (Sr., Hudson, Wis.) and Waldspurger led the Gusties’ offensive attempts, with three shots each. Goodno finished with a season-high eleven saves between the pipes.

The Gusties also celebrated Senior Day, and the nine individuals who have dedicated themselves to Gustavus women’s soccer throughout their careers: Ella Ruble, Kenna West, Annika Lewis, Abby Goodno, Molly Waters, Justine Holm, Jordan Whalen, Rachel Rehnelt, and Megan King.

The Gusties are back in action in Arden Hills on Oct. 22, facing Bethel for a 1 p.m. MIAC showdown.
