SAINT PETER, Minn. — The No. 17 Gusties proved their rank Saturday, extending their winning streak to nine in a most convincing 3-0 MIAC sweep of Hamline, their second in as many matches.
Set one was a runaway for the Gusties, who jumped out to an early 13-3 lead. Lauren Klaith (Jr., Rockford) and Marlee Turn (Jr., Kennedy) led the Gustie attack with four kills each in set one, defeating the Pipers by a score of 25-10.
The Gusties continued to smother the Pipers in set two, limiting the them to single digits. Hamline couldn’t recover a 22-7 deficit, as the Gusties would roll to a set two victory of 25-9.
While Hamline would post a match-high 20 points in set three, the Gusties were determined to end it in in a sweep. The Pipers would chase down the Gustie lead, but their efforts weren’t enough, as the Gusties wrapped up the day with a 25-20 set three victory.
Turn led a balanced offense for the Gusties, posting a total of 12 kills, just one better than Klaith. Sarah Elliott (Sr., Lombard, Ill.) and Courtney Peterson (Sr., Jamestown, N.D.) both added five to the total. Kasie Tweet (Jr., Adrian) was dominant on all fronts for the Gusties, posting a total of five kills, 28 assists, and four service aces. Maren Sundberg (Fy., Eagan) would add 11 digs to her team-leading 418, while Turn posted a team-leading 16 of her own.
The No. 17 Gusties, now 19-4 overall and 7-0 in conference, take a trip to Moorhead to face Concordia on Oct. 21.
