MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Facing an Augsburg team that hadn’t had a win in their last four games, the Gusties erupted for three second half goals en route to a 3-1 MIAC victory in Minneapolis.

Both teams played scoreless through the first half, with Augsburg holding the edge in shots, 7-5, including 3-2 on goal.

As the second half opened, so did the floodgates, with Cambelle Waldspurger (Fy., Mahtomedi) adding her team-leading fifth goal of the season just three minutes into the second 45. Molly Waters (Sr., Lakeville) wouldn’t waste any time adding another — just four minutes later — for a 2-0 Gustie lead. Elin Swenson (So., Uppsala Sweden) sealed the deal with the final Gustie goal, heading in a feed from Waters past Auggie goalkeeper Iz Shuster. Clara Fesemyer would sneak one past Abby Goodno (Sr., Little Canada), but the Auggie comeback effort would fall short, as the final would fall in favor of the Gusties, 3-1.

The Gustavus women’s soccer team, now 6-6-1 overall and 3-4-0 in MIAC play, is back in action on Saturday, inviting St. Olaf to campus for a 1 p.m. MIAC showdown.
