L?vija Shaeffer is a Studio Art major from Lincoln, Nebraska. Associate Professor Art Betsy Byers had the following to say about Livija, “Livija combines material and image in surprising ways. She has been a presence in the art department since her first year and is our go-to student for talking with new students.”
We asked Livija about her favorite times at Gustavus.
What will you miss most about art at Gustavus?
LS: “I will miss the professors the most when I leave Gustavus because they are such great resources and support systems here in the art department. They do a great job of helping you think of the big picture and what maybe you would want to do after your time here at Gustavus.”
What’s a favorite memory you have from studying art at Gustavus?
LS: “With studying art here at Gustavus a lot of my favorite memories are from being in the junior studio spaces tell wee hours in the mornings and doing cartwheels with the campus safety officer that would check in on us during those hours.”
What is the most interesting class you’ve taken at Gustavus and why?
LS: “I took a J term from the history department and this class was all about recreating things from the renaissance time period. We learned how to cut a quill and write with it, book bind, embroider, we recreated recipes from this time period and a lot more. It was a very hands-on class which helped me learn and be connected to this time period. I don’t think I would’ve understood this time period more if I took a traditional lecture class.”
