COVID-19 Reminders for May: May 4, 2022

TO: The Gustavus Community
FROM: COVID-19 Response Leadership Team

SUBJECT: COVID-19 Reminders for May
DATE: May 4, 2022
As we enter the last few weeks of the 2021-2022 academic year, the COVID-19 Response Leadership Team writes today with an update on masking and a few additional reminders to carry our community through the rest of the semester.
Update on Masking Levels:
Gustavus plans to remain at COVID Level 1 for the remainder of the academic year unless circumstances change. Even though on-campus case numbers are fluctuating above and below our threshold, infection numbers continue to trend upward in our state and nation. It is important for members of our community to remain vigilant in limiting the spread of COVID-19. Remaining at Level 1 allows faculty members to use their discretion to decide whether to require masking in their classrooms and learning spaces. Other Level 1 guidelines include:
  • Individual offices or departments: Masks may be required in specific locations on campus and will be indicated by a sign.
  • Other large events/gatherings: Other large events may choose to require attendees to wear masks.
  • Campus visitors: Visitors are expected to follow the same masking requirements as students and employees.
  • Mask readiness: The community is expected to keep a mask with them at all times and follow masking requirements when notified or posted by a sign.
  • Supporting individuals: Individuals are supported in their choice to continue to mask when masking is not required.
Reminders:
Testing: Visit the Gustavus testing resources website for more information, including options to test at the Gustavus Health Service by appointment or walk-in. You may also request free COVID-19 tests through the federal government, state government, or your insurance provider. Rapid tests are also available for purchase at pharmacies.

Close Contact: If you have been in close contact with a person who tested positive, take a COVID test either 1) immediately if you have symptoms or 2) Five (5) days after your last exposure. Visit the CDC website for more information on when to test and go into isolation.

If You Have Symptoms: Begin wearing a mask immediately and arrange to take a COVID-19 test as soon as possible. If you are feeling sick, stay home. If you test positive, you must promptly complete the COVID-19 Self-Report Form.

Masking: High-quality masks work to protect the wearer from contracting COVID-19 and spreading the virus. Free KN95 masks for students, faculty, and staff are available at the information desk in the Jackson Campus Center.

We have two more weeks of class followed by final examinations. Thank you for your continued diligence and commitment to helping keep our community safe. Keep up the good work, Gusties!
