The “Senior Spotlight” series honors graduating fine arts majors for their contributions to the Gustavus community.
Jocelyn Jaimez is a Vocal Music Education major from Bloomington, Minn. She is currently planning to teach high school for the next few years, before pursuing her graduate degrees. Associate Professor of Music and Voice Area Coordinator Dr. Patricia Snapp has been Jocelyn’s voice lessons instructor for the past four years. “I am excited to see Jocelyn become the phenomenal music educator that I know she will be and I look forward to watching her make such an important impact in the lives of her future students who will be so fortunate to have Jocelyn as their choir director, teacher, and mentor!” she says.
We asked Jocelyn to give us a little insight into her time at Gustavus.
How have you grown in your time at Gustavus?
JJ: I’ve grown incredibly as a student, a musician, and as an individual – learned how to take my passions and my talents and turn them into a career that I’m excited about.
What will you miss most about music at Gustavus?
JJ: The wonderful friends I’ve made.
What’s a favorite memory you have from studying music at Gustavus?
JJ: Choir tours!
What do you look forward to most about life after Gustavus?
JJ: Applying my love of music to the classroom – and more time to hike!
What is the most interesting class you’ve taken at Gustavus and why?
JJ: MUS-207, great environment for learning the foundations of music education
What professor has made the biggest impact on you and why?
JJ: Dr. Snapp. I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Snapp for the last four years and she has always had the most genuine love and care for me as her student. She always likes to keep up to date on everything happening in my life and is always there as a source of support.
