COVID-19 Weekly Update: April 13, 2021

TO: The Gustavus Community
FROM: COVID-19 Response Leadership Team

SUBJECT: COVID-19 Weekly Update

DATE: April 13, 2021

WEEKLY TIP
Today, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC and FDA (Food & Drug Administration) recommended temporarily pausing further administration of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine out of an abundance of caution. Please see the joint release from the two organizations for more details.

While the incidents leading to the temporary pause of the J&J vaccine have been extremely rare, anyone who has received the J&J vaccine who develops severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact the Gustavus Health Service or your own health care provider.
We continue to strongly encourage everyone in our community to get vaccinated.  Please check our Gustavus Vaccine Resources website for more information about where to find vaccines. If you have already received your vaccine, you can register to receive personalized health check-ins via your phone once you have received the vaccine at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/vsafe.html.
